What’s the Difference Between Cold Pressed Juice and Normal Juice?

What’s the Difference Between Cold Pressed Juice and Normal Juice? - Little West

The difference between cold pressed juice and normal juice is that cold pressing involves no heat. Why is it important to avoid using heat when you make juice? It’s because heat lowers the quality. Juices made using a heat process are less nutritious and less flavorful.

Not all juice is created equal. When you try cold pressed juice after drinking normal juice, you’ll taste the difference immediately -- even when you compare simple juice flavors, like orange juice. Little West cold pressed juices are more vibrant and more refreshing. They’re also perfectly balanced for sweetness and crisp, healthy flavor.

At Little West, it’s our mission to create the best juice you’ll ever taste. Our juices are always 100% cold pressed for premium quality. We also cold press so that our ingredients maintain their nutritional value and anti-inflammatory health benefits.

Let’s take a closer look at the difference between cold pressed juice and normal juice:

What is Cold Pressed Juicing?

what is cold pressed juice

Cold pressed juices have significantly more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, digestive enzymes, and other nutrients compared to normal juices made using heat.

Cold pressed juice is made using a hydraulic press. It’s usually a two-step process. First, the juice ingredients are inspected for quality, thoroughly washed, chopped or ground into smaller pieces, and placed in a special filter bag.

Then, the bagged ingredients are loaded into the hydraulic press. The press machine applies thousands of pounds of pressure, squeezing every drop of juice from the fruits and vegetables in the bag.

At Little West, we cold press in small batches. We calculate the perfect amount of raw produce for every flavor and juice all the ingredients together at the same time. Other juice companies press their ingredients separately, in mass quantities, and then combine the juices later to create a blend. Although this “large batch” cold pressed juice is still more nutritious than normal juice, we prefer small batching because it creates a richer, brighter, and more nuanced flavor palette.

Throughout the cold pressing process, there’s no heat involved at any point. Cold pressed juices are never heat pasteurized. Little West uses a non-heated method called High Pressure Processing to make our juices safe for everyone (including pregnant people and the immuno-compromised) and preserve their longevity.

What is Normal Juicing?

normal juice

Normal juicing involves a centrifugal juicer. This type of juicer uses sharp blades, which spin at very high speeds to pulverize the ingredients and extract their juice. Although it’s often faster than cold pressing, this method unfortunately generates heat.

It destroys the fresh, vibrant flavor of the ingredients and degrades their nutritional value. Many normal juices are then pumped full of added sugars or sweeteners, artificial flavors, or other chemicals to compensate for the low quality of the final product. Some regular juices are just as unhealthy as soda.

Normal juices are also pasteurized. During pasteurization, the juice is heated to temperatures as high as 161 degrees Fahrenheit. Although pasteurization kills harmful bacteria, it also destroys many of the health benefits of raw fruits and vegetables. Pasteurization also makes juice less flavorful.
